This is the FIRST edition of Year 25! Congratulations are in order for You, for the Advertisers, Printers, Writers, Distributors and for Me! What a great team we have all been over the last 25 yrs. Can we last 25 more? Only one way to find out!
Unfortunately there were a few sad occurances since last edition. Can death be both sad and joyful? My dear friend from Hixon, Eileen Blanchet, passed away in October, and even though she was ready, many of us were not ready to let her go! Eileen has been a vital part of my life since the days when we both lived in Mission, BC. She had written a manuscript and wanted it typeset to make into a book for a Christmas gift for each of her 12 children. I was one of the few people in Mission who had a computer, and I did a lot of typesetting for the local printer and for walk-in traffic. I was so impressed by Eileen’s brilliance, I asked if I could visit and chat with her about her mysterious views. A wonderful friendship ensued. Over the years we traveled together and visited regularly, and I will miss her tremendously.
Plus another friend, Peggy Mitchell from Victoria, also passed away. I first met Peggy when I moved to Victoria in 2006 and joined the Newcomers’ group. When she was President, I did their newsletter. She was a delightful new friend.
But the past few months also had some joyful moments too. I went with Isagenix teammates and friends Vivienne and Sharon to the Mainland on the 19th for an Isagenix event of learning and fun. What a great group of people. I feel so blessed having them as part of my life now. A special congratulations goes to Leora, Maryann and Karen for joining me in November in this journey to health!
I returned to the Mainland on the 26th for a combined birthday bash for my son and his two children who are close to becoming adults! Samantha is 16 now and Max is 14 and both are growing tall like their Dad, whose birthday was celebrated too, but I won’t mention any age number in his case. Makes ME feel old! When I mentioned that to my Mom she said, “Sheila, you think having a son in his 40’s makes you old? How do you think I feel knowing I have children in their 60’s?” Good perspective Mom!
My early mornings on Mon+Wed+Fri at the Curves exercise studio are starting to pay off. Steady toning is happening now.
By the end of November, the men from the sewer installation finished off the bottom of my driveway, replacing the bricks to look just as they had before! Well done gents! Next will be our individual homes actually hooking up to the sewer. No OK from the city quite yet though, so it may have to wait until springtime when things are dry again.
My much awaited December arrived like a lamb so I was able to get outside to decorate my huge cedar tree again, making it look like a Christmas tree with huge inflated rubberized Christmas balls. Luckily they had remained inflated all year so I didn’t have to make a rush trip to the tire shop for help this year. Inflating them with a foot pump takes hours!
When this edition went to press, it was before Christmas, even though it is a January edition. The print shop closes down between Christmas and New Years so all publications need to be printed beforehand. But I did get to do up some gingerbread houses for family and advertisers. Their deliveries will happen after press day though, so I can’t tell you how well received they were! Have to just go on previous year’s experiences there. I still enjoy doing them and even gathering all the candies for weeks beforehand. Our local Shopper’s Drug Mart carries character chocolates of Santa, trees, reindeer and snowmen. They are fun to use in the decorating of the fronts and backs of the houses. For weeks my kitchen smells like sugar! I try not to nibble too much! House deliveries will be December 16th for the Mainland, and then the 25th for Victoria.
For the Earlybird RV Show happening February 2-5 in the Tradex buildings in Abbotsford, I did up these snowmen dolls for the draw at my booth! Sure hoping that the only snow happening on those days will be the “snow” in these doll cuties!
There is a change coming this spring for the timing of the Chilliwack Humdinger RV Show that used to be in March. In 2012 it is happening on the April 19-22 weekend right before I go to press with my 147th edition! Hey, does anyone remember what is special to me about the 47 in that 147th number?
Meantime, A Very Happy Holiday Time to one and all!
