The Kris Kringle Craft Market can be found in the beautiful Village of Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island. This festive four-day Christmas event is always held on the last weekend of November at the Civic Centre and features Carriage rides, Free Family Photos and over 120 high quality crafters from all over BC.
?The show is lavish in decorations,? says organizer Veronica von Conruhds. ?I started the Kris Kringle Craft Market in 1994 with 2,000 people coming to shop, but it has now grown to over 8,000 attending. Even our Village gets ready whereby storeowners decorate their windows with fresh cedar boughs and greenery. The trees on the sidewalks have white twinkle lights, a truly beautiful sight to behold.?
The Kris Kringle Craft Market has become a destination, as it is known for its high quality crafts and delectable fine foods. The show embraces many interactive activities for the young and young-at-heart. The Kris Kringle Station for the kids to decorate gingerbread cookies was added in the first couple of years with Kris Kringle himself making special appearances, as well as Princess Kringle.
Other characters were added in more recent years to help create more of those happy family memories.
?The Show was borne out of a creative imagination and a German Heritage,? says von Conruhds. ?I named it the Kris Kringle Craft Market because as a child I used to listen to my Mom relaying stories about her German Christmases as a little girl. The craft markets were called Christkindel-Markt but it always sounded like Kris Kringle to me. So it fuelled within me a burning desire to recreate these markets and it has continually spurned me on.?
The Craft Market is community based, as it is a fundraiser for the Society of Organized Services. Clothes, food, toys and money are raised to support their Christmas Programs. Other groups also use the market to promote their programs and fundraise as well.
Since customers come from far and wide to shop, it is always nice to have daily grand prizes, as well as many other door prizes. These too add much to the festive nature of this classic Christmas event. Admission is $4 per day or $5 for all four days. The market is also wheelchair accessible.
